The CRE Finance Council's Board of Governors Sentiment Index fell sharply in the third quarter of 2026, declining 17.5% to 83.3 from 101.0 in the prior period, reaching its lowest level in three years, the trade association announced Monday in New York.
The drop was broad-based, with caution registering across all nine core questions that make up the index, according to CREFC. The uniform deterioration suggests sentiment among senior leaders in commercial real estate finance has weakened significantly rather than being isolated to a single sector or concern.
